Tips On Removing Silicone Sealant

Recommended Posts

DamirGTI

Hello !

Please , does anyone knows some easier way for removing silicone sealant from the body panels ? :D

Someone "glued" all the plastic side mouldings with clear silicone :) and now i have an sealant scrubbing party , i tried soaking the sealant with paint thinners prior to scrubbing (nitrate based , acetone based etc.) but all with s**t of the progress so far  dunno any other way apart from scrubbing is there any ?!

Thanks !

Damir

Other than that, friction is the best option :)

I generally use my thumb to rub sealers off, but you can buy a drill attachment specially for the job. Known in the trade as a toffee or caramel wheel (due to the smell they give off when being used), the proper name is a 3M stripe removal / eraser wheel. They can usually be picked up on UK ebay for around £5, but as always, they may be a little harder to pick up where you are

You can buy some silicone sealant remover (it removes other adhesives too) from a good plumbing shop.
