Oil Coolers

Recommended Posts

boldy205

Hi, i am after some advise regarding air/oil coolers on a 205 mi16. Are thay really needed for track use in the summer? If so what sort of size do people go for and where are the best places to buy from/ how much. Thanks for your time, i realise it has probably been covered before, i have searched but havent realy found what i have been looking for.

Thanks

Matt.

Yes for summer track use id say a cooler was essential to maintain the life of the engine. Something around 13 row would be ok (i think thats what is on mine), you can buy them in 'bolt on' kits from ebay with the sandwich plate, fittings etc.

I've been running my track only Mi16'd 205 for a couple of years now & had a similar choice then as sometimes when you opened the bonnet on a hot night the heat was immense!

As I saw the standard 205 radiator only comes with one fan but the housing has the mounting spaces for 2 fans then I decided to try installing a spare one I had lying around in the spare space. I wired the twin fans then up through a relay on to a switch on the dash.

This solution has worked well for me at keeping the engine cool and even with 2 of us driving and the car out on track for up to an hour the temp guage constantly reads on the lower end of the normal section the whole time. When it feels warm at all or there are the 2 of us driving I just play safe & leave the fans on all the time….

I have had a look on ebay, some of the 13 row coolers are about £30+shipping, some known-brand new ones are there too for about £40 so may treat myself soon. I notice you are running turbo power, is it the 406/xm/citroen engine you have or a conversion to the 1.9 or 1.6 xu9 engine? -If it is the xu10 406etc engine, did you use the take offs at the front of the engine next to the oil filter for the take offs to the cooler?

Cheers Headling, my conversion is in progress..
