Dash Options

I'm wondering whether to "two tone" my dash. Having removed Dan's PH2 dash from the laser shell, I now have a complete Ph2 dash (a little tatty) and a good Ph1.5 one from my grey GTi. As I have dark grey carpets and very dark grey leather fitted (seats look black with a grey dash and grey with a black dash !) I was thinking of using the grey 1.5 main upper and lower main sections with black centre section and instrument cowl.

What do you think?

Mine's been two-tone for a couple of years now, as I just can't afford to buy a black dash. Everything from the heater controls downwards is black (as are the door cards and centre console), but the top of the dash is still grey.

I've just learned to live with it as it's all my meagre budge will allow :( but I'd much rather have it all one colour.

At the end of the day it's your car though, so if you like it, go for it :)

Sounds pretty interesting that does. Very weird on the eye i'd imagine. But in a good way :) . Definatley one trick touch that a glancing eye wouldn't notice.

it was extremely hard to source any dash surround here in Hong Kong. a few years back i found a ph1.5 top surrounding and spray painted the whole (even the unbroken centre ph2) set to matt black. it works even better than original ph2 because it never reflects a bit of the sun light during the day.

go for the full ph2 dash, your end up kicking yourself for not going the whole hog.

OK. Now I'm in a similar dilema...

I have a black, leather type upper section dashboard which I should cut so that I can fit it in my track car.

On my cabriolet though, I have a grey upper section with many black bits....

And now I'm wondering, should I cut the black dash, or dissasemble the dash of my cabrio, fit the black one to it, and cut the grey one

I'd say it depends on the other trim in the cabrio. If the door cards etc. are grey, I'd stick with the grey dash - suits the silver better IMO, anyway.

Next dilemma, I've found some lurid green (close to laser) seatbelts!!! Not sure whether to fit these, as I like the subtlety of the grey / black interior - but these belts aren't going to be available very often. I love the red belts with the cherry red car, but that has red carpet and details in the trim.

When did you become such a tart Steve?

Get a decent photo of that dash. Can't see bugger all in that previous pic!

That looks OK actually. Not too bad at all.

Mine has a Ph1.5 interior and I was gong to replace some of it with my spare Ph2 bits as some of the original trim has seen better days, and I prefer black anyway. I was going to give the main dash a quick blow over with some Foliatec tinting spray, which should do the job fine. But I dunno, I could leave it as yours looks OK. We'll see.

continuing my slight offtopic - I just couldn't cut the leather dashboard, so yesterday I swapped it for the plastic one in my cabrio.

I must say I am very glad with the work - for the first time I used all the rivets that go into the dash, and for the first time when driving over paving stones it doesn't feel like the car is falling apart

+ I fixed some of my wiring gremlins

+ Now I've got air vents in the middle

+ it matches very well with the full leather interior

The only problem is that I still got some grey bits...but they are only noticeable if you know they are grey
