Rear Brakes Locking Under Heavy Breaking

Recommended Posts

SweetBadger

One thing after another with the pug at the mo!

I've got a standard 1.6 brake setup at the mo and have recently replaced all the flexis and bled the system to get it through an MOT. It was fine after this and I did a track day with no problems.

It has now started locking up the rears and making the car lurch/spin to the right under heavy braking, it's bloody scary!

What do you think it is? Compensator, servo, MC

Need to get this sorted asap as it's my daily drive.

Thanks, Alex.

I'd start by whipping both the rear drums off for a looky. Pulling could be due to a u/s wheel cylinder leaking fluid.

I've replaced the shoes recently and had them off a couple of months ago to adjust the not so self adjusting handbrake jobbies and all was well and all looked fine, plus both rears are locking up, so I guess this points to a problem with the hydraulics...

sounds to me like the compensator has seized. I'm not too sure what the repair procedure is with one of these but i'm sure someone on here will

I think I'll try replacing the compensator and go from there unles there's another common known cause of the rears locking? It's bolted to the chasis leg on the 1.6 right?

Hope replacing it does the trick, cheapest I can find it is 40quid from GSF!
