alync406 4 Posted May 17, 2008 I just fitted a quaife diff to my gti today and i seen that the final drive is 3.69:1.Is this a 1.9 final drive as i thought that the gearing was a bit long.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 18, 2008 The 1.9 GTi crownwheel I have is stamped 59x16 which works out at 3.6875 so it does look like your car has a 1.9 gearbox. The 1.6 one is stamped 65x 16 which makes it 4.063. Graham.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted May 18, 2008 It does sound very much like it as Graham's said, Not uncommon to find all sorts of boxes fitted to these car's as most seller's have no idea of what they are selling only it come off a 1.6 GTi, The amount of Derv boxes I have had in exchange say's it all really. If a Rally car I would opt for the 4.4 from the Mi16 if you do change it
alync406 4 Posted May 18, 2008 Thanks for the replys.I was thinking it was a 1.9 gearbox from i bought it as the gearing seemed long. The (autocross)track i race at has alot of tight corners and i am always having to change down to 1st.I think i will have to look for a different ratio crownwheel and pinion. Another question-i used castrol EPX75W80 oil,is this ok for the quaife diff?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted May 18, 2008 That oil should be fine for use with a Quaife diff imo. Graham.
