Bastard Injectors!

As above. I need to remove the caps (pintle caps?) to replace the seals. I remember on my previous 1.6 they were quite loose, and I even had one drop off into a (luckily closed) inlet valve as I was banging on the fuel rail trying to refit it :lol: But these ones (Mi ones) I can't get the bloody caps off! They aren't glued as I can rotate them freely, but trying to lever them off with a screwdriver and they won't budge. And I don't want to be too ham fisted and damage the injectors.

 

Help please!!!

Leave 'em alone! Lift the old seals off like a little bike tyre, Put a little oil on the new ones and push home over the cap. they won't fall off when you don't want them to then.

Easier send than done I'm afraid!

 

The old one had to be stretched so far to come off that it snapped (no problem though). New one doesn't want to go over the cap.

 

They must come off as you can get replacements in refurb kits.

Just had another go and done the m all now. It was like Steve said, do it like a tyre.

 

I used a small flat head screwdriver to lever a part of the seal over the cap and then held it with my thumb while working around the circumference of the seal to pop it off. Getting the new one on was a bit of a struggle at first but if you use a bit of kitchen towel between seal and thumb it gives you a better purchase on it, so just try and work part of the seal over the cap and then work around the edge unti it pops all the way over.

 

It's also good to find that with new seals the injectors pop back in to place very easily. With the old seals (they expand and go harder) they can be tough old bastards to get out of the rail.

Something to bear in mind. The pintle caps can overheat and stick on. That isn't so much a problem, but the deforming of their faces can be, as it will affect the spray pattern.

Best to get them off somehow and fit new ones.
