What's Wrong With This Picture ?!

I've checked the timing with pins – all seems fine , then i've removed/refitted/retensed the belt two times , tried moving the camshaft a little bit to the right but as soon as i start the engine the belt moves to the right and keeps spinning on this position , however it turns smooth without wandering sideways when the engine is running .

What could be wrong ?! ;)

Is it actually rubbing on anywhere?

No  everything seems fine no rubbing , no strange sounds (whining etc.) , turns smooth without wandering sideways , timing belt is fairly new (roughly 6months old) , i've replaced the tensioner 4 years ago ... ?! does it supposed to look like this ;)

Thanks !

It may be that the head's been skimmed slightly on the pee or the waterpump or tensioner are running slightly out of true. If that's all it does, not really anything to worry about.

I reckon it looks a bit too near the end of the pulley and if goes any further may rub on the bracket.Reckon you should make sure theres no excess movement in the likes of waterpump pulley and tensioner is not cocked over maybe, then if all is reattach belt and slide it all way over and try again and see what happens then.

Ok. but what you reckon can it possibly slip down from the pulley if turning on this position ? it does look a bit weird

Thanks ! ;)

I'll inspect a little bit further when i find some spare time ;) although as said everything seems fine theres no strange sounds , no rubbing , nothing unusual during the driving or anything really .. and all the parts are fairly new/fresh including the water pump all replaced 6months or maxi 1year ago (bar the tensioner i replaced him 4years ago but it turns and drives the belt normally ...)

Could be some sort of mismatch in between the block/head surface or the mounting points or something .. like Sandy says  as i've built this engine with various parts , the block and the head are from late/early 1.9 engines but same D6B marks ..

hi,

I notice something similar on my timing belt today as i was refitting it, the tensioners and locknut were only handtight at the time, so i pushed belt back on straighter and then tightened up nuts and its been fine since

The belt will find its own position generally as the crank will pull the belt square. It wont fall off in the above photos but it may rub on the casings/ cambelt covers. However in the first pic it looks like the belts rubbed on the inner edge as its shiny - the edge closest the gearbox, so have a check nothings hitting.

Hi !

Yes the belt is shiny on the inside edge but not because of rubbing on things ;) , the camshaft seal was leaky so the belt has picked up a little bit of oil on the side edge .. anyway i've fixed that , changed the cam seal , degrease all the pulleys and tensioner (the belt wasn't greasy from underneath ..) and tried driving the car yesterday but the belt keeps spinning like this on the edge of the pulley (i didn't refit the top cambelt cover so that i can observe the belt position ..)

I'll order a new belt and tensioner tomorrow and change them just to be sure that it isn't the tensioner for some reasons

Thanks !

As you have had the belt off twice, and its been in contact with oil, id have replaced the belt as a precaution.

Was planing to  , however the shop was closed at that time when i saw this and when i was removing refitting the belt so i couldn't buy new one ... and i didn't use the car afterwards bar the short test drive just to see if theres some improvement regarding this ..

As said will do the belt and tensioner first thing tomorrow ;) (if this bloody rain stops till tomorrow )
