Solid Bottom Engine Mount

Currently have the B&M one on my race car which is great and I have seen solid ones made from ally but found above and was interested if anyone had any experience or opinons.

This is for my road going 1.6, but as i don't have access to a press, removal of the old bush and fitting of the new would be difficult at best. Therefore thinking as this is a whole unit it will make life easier. I'm due to change driveshafts shortly so this would be an ideal opportunity to fit this.

Cheers

Chris.

You can get this out with a butane blowlamp and a chisel. Getting another one in you just need a vice and a big lump hammer.

If it's a 1.6 you might want to consider using a standard diesel 306 mount, i think they are uprated but not to the point of the group a ones which cause the cabin to resonate and drown out any engine note...

I have a PTS solit mount in the housing already knocking about.

I'm swtiching to full solid mounts on the track car now. apparenlty some people have experinced loss of traction issues with fully solid mounts as there's no moment to absorb the intial "jolt" of torque in to the drive train and you can get slippage, petert mentioned abotu this and reverted to nylon ones instead of solid billet.

I have used a solid ally lower bush with group N upper mounts and I couldn't tell the difference between solid and a group N lower mount really.

Driveline shunt has nowhere to go but the shell, so loss of traction and more strain through the shell etc, but that one isn't completely solid anyway, it's resin, will have some 'give' in it.

Get an acetal fork bush from Stew aswell. :)

No I didn't and you're right it would probably have made a lot of difference.

Two dumb questions

1. who is Stew?

2. where/what is the fork bush?

Is this a secret part of the car that only initiates of a certian level are allowed to know about? You really do have me stumped as to where on the car there is a fork with a bush that needs replacing.

Go on someone put me out of my misery.

The part that joins the lower engine mount to the subframe has a bush where it bolts to the subframe that is often overlooked.
