Cambelt/tensioner Question

Recommended Posts

OK. So I'm building a xu5 motor from a block out of a xu9jaz engine and head from a xu9ja engine :) and I now should buy a cambelt and tensioner.

But I don't know which ones should I get. What is determining whether I need 114 teeth cambelt or 113 one?

Also what about the tensioner? Is it the block or the head or the sprocket on the camshaft?

timing belt required depends on the tensioner used, there are 2 types of tensioner.

2-Pugs

I think it depends on the tensioner, which depends on the 'vintage' of the block

The early spring loaded tensioner uses a belt with 113 teeth (I think)

The later 'cam' type of tensioner uses the 114 teeth belt.

I think the tensioner, water pump and plastic cam belt covers were all changed at the same time so perhaps you can tell that way.

I have an XU9JAZ engine and that has the later tensioner and longer belt

Don't know if thats any help or not really! :)
