jamiej 0 Posted May 12, 2008 Hiya, As some of you know, im in the middle of a head re build. I have cleaned everything, it all looks lovely, just to need to port it now and source a cam (opinions) ... i was thinking, however, of maybe going down the bike carb route ? Any opinions on this ? secondly, what carbs are the best to use, are you better going for a larger capacity bike, as its a fairly large capacity engine. All the threads and posts i have found are for smaller engines. They all tend to use R6 of GSXR 600 carbs. Is it better to use maybe an R1 carb of a GSXR 1000 carb for example on the larger engine. Thirdly, with regards to the manifold, is the best route to get a standard manifold, chop the plenum from it, so you are left with just the mounting plate, then weld ally tube in the desired/required orientation. Lastly, would widening and matching the intake port shape on the head and intake manifold have any positive effects on the running of the engine. Sorry for all the questions, thought it would be better to put them all in one rather than littering the forum with lots of little topics. Many thanks Jamie
Peetypug 5 Posted May 12, 2008 there are quitea few topics about 1.9's on r1 carbs i bought all the bits with the intention of fitting them to mine, but now i'm gti6ing mine try typing +bogg +bros into the search box

Peetypug 5 Posted May 12, 2008 no sorry, i've already sold them there is plenty on here about them, its just searching using the right words that takes the time
Guest gilou-bilou Posted May 13, 2008 Somebody have a mail adress for boggbros ? I didn't find anything on their website ... Only a phone number, and i'm not strong enough with english language to explain what's i want on phone .... Maybe somebody know the price for a manifold for XU 8s with R1 carbs ? I've allready ask shenpar ...
ifcho 0 Posted May 13, 2008 The manifold is the tricky bit. I'm just in the process of making one at the moment....and although chopping the original manifold, sounded like the right way to me, finding a alu tube with 42mm inlet diameter is impossible here...so I'll be making a steel one. Peetypug 5 Posted May 13, 2008 i paid just under £200 for my manifold off them. There is quite a bit of a waiting list as well. A few people on here have made their own using some metal plate and tube
Guest gilou-bilou Posted May 14, 2008 Somebody have tried something with a weber manifold ? The distance between body of weber is 90mm and R1 85mm, apparently the body of the R1 can be separate and perhaps re-spaced ?
Peetypug 5 Posted May 14, 2008 yes they can be spaced out. I dont know exactly how but i'm 100% certain they can be. Dont know if they will fit onto a webber manifold, but with some samco style hose i cant see why they wouldn't
Guest gilou-bilou Posted May 14, 2008 I will try to investigate this solution ... The only bad things, this was too easy ... For sure something goes wrong. I can't imagine nobody didn't try this before. And i didn't seen a solution like this on pictures before. To link the carb to the manifold, i've seen some "flange" near to be perfect. With collar on one side and bolts patterns on the other one.
