It could be the connection from the brown multiplug (My Topic) rather than the starter itself, even if it is getting power through this and the thick positive wire it may not be getting enough.

But to answer your question, all XU and XUD starter motors will fit afaik, so those from 306, 309, 405, Xantia, ZX etc. I used one from a 16v 306 and it worked well.

cheers, went out tonite took manifold off and crossed wires, the starter turned, crossed it so solenoid worked it did, crossed them so that it started,it was very slow, checked battery with voltmeter, plenty volts in it,still nothing when i turn key, alough once it worked but very slow,i have another starter coming,is it possible the starters just shafted,as i was second hand but tested by myself and seemed to work fine, the one that was in it before spun ok but solenoid didnt throw out,so its not the same problem,im just starting to realise why i havent had a french car for a while lol!!!

cheers gus

Sounds like the starter could be on its way out but it is also possible that you have a problem with the ignition barrel or wiring. Try the new starter and if that doesn't work then you are going to have to start chasing wiring problems :)
