Valve Stem Oil Seals

Recommended Posts

stiofan

hi,

I was fitting the valve stem oil seals on 1.6 with a 10mm socket, also tried larger and smaller sockets,as per haynes instructions but they didnt go on well and will probably have to get new ones and start again Has anyone one got any tips on how to put them on properly? thanks

Buy a pair of sealy valve stem oil seal pliers from Ebay - mine cost £7 and are perfect for the job.

I use a socket, but getting the size right and lining it up is important.

Ive used sockets for every engine ive built.

You want to try and get it to fit the casing, rather than the rubber to avoid damage. Its got to be on straight, and just tap with a dead blow hammer or similar. You can feel when they are fully seated.

As with most things...practice makes perfect :D
