Mi16 On Carbs

ANDYMISIXTEEN

Ive just dropped a Mi16 into my 205. It has Piper cams set to -10', 45 webers and has had head work. It needs running in, setting up and finishing off. It will only be a road car. Got a few queries about the swap before i finish.

Should i take the engine loom out and cut everything i dont need off? Ecu, Afm, injectors ,throttle switch? Is that all? Do i need to rewire the Rev counter and put the fuel pump to the ignition?

What oil should i use to run the engine in and the gearbox thats also been recond. I think im either going to Northampton motorsport or Merlin Racing for the set up.

Would setting the cams to 0' help to get it started or should i leave it to the RR?

Is the Facet pump and reg best placed where the jack sits?

The fuel pump in the tank has a filter at the bottom should i reattach it after ive put the copper pipe on?

As for the loom: Do you want to keep it to poss put injection back later? if not then you can remove all the injection wires, but keep the ingnition wires there obviously. If you are using the standard 8v dizzy ingition setup you may find its not the best way to go as you cant get all the advance you need. Therefore i would (and have done myself) fit a mappabale dizzyless ignition setup. My car has only got standard cams on 45s and the 1.9 8v dizzy was running full advance and still needing more, as a fesult of that it was quite jolty on light throtle, and not as quick. I used a Megajolt setup, its cheap, reasonably easy to install (i done it myself and im a Carpenter!) the RR operator said it was as gooda product as systems that cost 4x as much, and so far, seems to be reliable!! Having cams may make things differant, but i would guess its only going to help going dizzyless. The rev counter wire is a white wire number 112. I cant remember how to wire it up if you run a dizzy, if you have to change anything, im not sure, but a post/search on here will tell you. I have my Facet Red Top mounted on the drivers side iner wing on a stud that was already on the body work and the Reg on the slam pannel, and all seems to be fine. If you require any more info on MegaJolt contact MartinM on the forum and tell him i sent you.

Hope this helps

Matt.

Also do i need the vacuum bit on the dizzy and connect it up to the inlet manifold?

Looking good! The mappable ingition route will cost aprox £200-£300 Depending on weather you use new/ secondhand bits. The ECU will cost about £100ish, then take a look at www.trigger-wheels.com for prices of the EDIS parts, thrust me you will wish you had done this later on if you use a dizzy now. There is another option, a re weighted dizzy to suit your engine, not sure who roes these now but post or search and you will find. I THINK rescue dude on here had one, could drop him a PM? Either way yuo want to sort something.

As for the vac advance, you cant run it as the inlet manifold is to short and will cause pulsing as the piston goes up and down constantaly advancing and retarding the timing. Some people have used a pipe from each of the 4 runners of the manifold onto one to try and stabilise the pulsing, but i thing most run without on carbs.

Hope that helps

Matt

Think mapple ignition will have to come later if im not pleased with how it is. re weighted dizzy is intresting.

Can u run a much longer hose to the inlet manifold to componsate for the shorter inlet or will it still pulse?

If i cut bits of the loom should i follow the wires all the way to the ends and cut them?

Anyone know what sort of oil i need to get for the running in period?
