Rear Brake Imbalance.

Recommended Posts

ned

Hi all,

My 205 1.9 failed the NCT(Ireland) last december on the rear brake balance.

The results were:

Nearside Offside

Front axle 2.00kN 2.27kN

Rear axle 1.25kN 0.41kN

Parking brake 0.90kN 0.85kN

I tested the car after, and during heavy breaking the rear offside(drivers side) wheel locks up with or slightly before the fronts, even though it is weaker than the other side on the NCT result and during testing (turning the wheels with the car jacked up).

I have changed the master cylinder and both compensators, bled the brakes, the pads and disks are new, and I even changed over compensators to see if the problem would switch to the other side but it didnt. I renewed the lines about a year ago aswell so they should be ok.

If anyone can shed any light on the problem it would be great, its a tricky one and ive ran out of ideas as to the problem

Ned.

Ye I swapped over the pads and disks and still the same. I replaced the front section on line so I suppose the other section is the other possibility.

Does anyone know what the normal front and rear pressures should be at the test (in kN).

Could be blocked (well partially blocked) flexi/rubber pipe on one side :D , try test bleeding the brakes find someone to pump the pedal while your opening/closing the bleeding nipples .. You'll be able to estimate on which side (wheel) you have a problem by looking at the oil squirt amount (and intensity) from the nipples when you open them on left/right side , they'll should be of equally amount and intensity providing the pressure is good on each side of the rear brakes :D

Rgs ! ;)
