Dash Instruments/clocks Playing Up

Ive recently bought a phase 2 309 gti auto off of a mate that wasnt using it much. Hes told me the oil pressure/temp and engine temperature gauges were tempermental i.e. they stopped working when going around corners then sometimes wouldnt come back on again. I have yet to notice this but the fuel gauge isnt working for me, its in the past empty posistion all of the time (like when the ignition is off).

Any ideas anyone?

2-Pugs

Both oil gauges on my 205 are temperamental. Have you checked the senders on the engine. If you touch the terminal directly to earth I think :) the needle should go to the top end of the scale. That should tell you if the gauge and wiring to it are ok or not

I had a similar problem on my 205, the gauges, especially the fuel gauge, were tempremental.

I removed the dash and cleaned the connections.

All work fine now.

Checked the fuel sender in the fuel tank under the back seat, the float seems fine and free, put a meter on the plug to the sender, got about 5v on one of the terminals, the other two had 0v, which im guessing could be correct ie 5v goes to the sender, comes out of the sender down another wire to give the gauge a reading, the last wire could be for the empty light?

Checked the gauge, moves free enough manually, all the connections seemed ok and the circuit board had no breaks in it.

So it could be the gauge or the wiring if 5v isnt correct.
