Car Is Still Missfiring On Second Cylinder In From Gear Box Side.

Recommended Posts

right i have a question for you.

as you may be aware my car is not firing on the second cylinder in from the gear box side, the injectors are working fine, i know this as i took the inlet manifold off and fuel was spraying out of all of them,

there is a spark i know this as i have tried 2 different plugs and each has a strong clean spark, my problem is when i take either the injector plug or the ht lead off of the cylinder that is second in from the gearbox side it does not effect the running, but when i take the injector lead or the ht lead off any other cylinders the car nearly stalls, its miss firing throughout the rev range.

i dont know what could be causing this problem?? any ideas?

i have swapped the injector plugs around between 2&3 cylinder and the plug from the bad cylinder fires the injector in the cylinder next to it with no issues at all.

cheers lucas

Poor compression on that cylinder?

thats the impression im starting to get, just fitted new head gasket and re con head, run it in for 400 miles with no issues, thrashed it a couple of times, then drove as normal and now it miss fires, i ordered a compression tester off ebay so should have that soon then i will check compression.

if it is low compression what will it be? a stuck lifter?

if so can i sort that with head in place? cheers lucas

did you get the head skimmed when you had it re con, this sounds exactly what mine did, this was the head gasket. i also got the head compression tested and skimmed and then i put it back together and worked a treat

head was skimmed, new valve stem seals, etc etc

that must of been a massive issue with the head gasket for it not to fire chris? im thinkin (wish i had a compression tester here right now as i could give you factual information) that the inlet valve is not seating and this is causing zero compression hence why it wont fire.

did you check the valve clearances when you put it back together? i.e are you 100% that the shims and buckets went back in the same place or was it re-set?

compression was

from cambelt side

1. 190

2. 190

3. 25

4. 190

all sorted now. was a sticking lifter on number 3 all at the same compression now. (the compression gauge was a push in one so take results with a pinch of salt, but suffice to say they all have decent compression now)

Had a similar prob. a while ago after doing some work - What a tw@t I felt when finding I'd put the HT leads on the wrong way round
