Can I Use Gti6 Clutch With Mi16 Box?

Recommended Posts

I might have got the pulling/pushing bit round the wrong way, but basically the gti6 engine i've bought had 6 speed box on it with the type of clutch release bearing that was half on either side of the metal springy things in the middle of the clutch face (very technical i know ^_^)

we didn't realise you had to pull the pin out of the clutch arm lever and remove the lever in order to be able to remove the box and in the end brute force meant we'd pulled the bearing back through the springy bits and the gear box off then just came off normally.

The clutch now looks just like a normal mi16 clutch that i've seen before where the release bearing pushes up against the face of the springy middle bits.

My question is can i use this clutch with a normal mi16 release bearing or will i need a new clutch? or do they operate in completly different ways hence the differnet bearings. I've not had chance to look properly and have just thought about it here at work

cheers

Matt

no completely different i'm afraid.

instead of pushing on the spring to release the clutch it pulls (hence the name) on the springs. the two springs point in completely different directions, hence why the two types are incompatible.

fraid you've buggered it Matt! they're a Pull type like tom said, hence the attached release bearing.

Pretty sure you could use the friction plate with a 1.9 Mi pressure plate though.
