Another Compensator Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm just stripping down the rear axle to refurb and got to removing the compensators. They look to be in dreadfull condition and now removed I don't seem to be able to move the lever at all, any advice on testing, renovating of getting some good ones would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, when the car was together the breaking was all over the place, the car was almost twisting sideways on heavy braking. Not safe :)

What 'lever' are you referring to?

Looking like they are in a dreadful state on the exterior doesn't always mean they are in poor condition internally though remember.

It's not uncommon to have a compensator that is knackered. Have you tried pumping the brake pedal with the compensator disconnected from the caliper side? You should get a nice flow of fluid with a relatively easy press of the pedal. If you can press the pedal hard with a small flow of fluid, it's knacked.

Despite being a 'restrictor' of sorts, it still allows a decent flow of fluid in serviceable form.

Ok, i think i'm a little confused, on each of the trailing arms there is a small block with a brake pipe going into and out of it, then a lever at one end with a spring pressing against it, this seems to allow the brake fluid to be restricted varying with suspensioin position, i'll post a photo if needed tomorrow!!

Sounds like its got ABS? That means the compensators are different to the normal 1.9 type.

I know, tempting but I do want to turn this car back into its original factory state. Is there anyone out there that has dealt with the ABS system or has spares for it?! :P
