Baffled Sump

Recommended Posts

Searching for a baffled sump for my Mi16, am reading a lot that the S16 one suits perfectly, however, there aren't many S16's in my neck of the woods, so I'm just wondering if any of the 406 petrols (1.8 etc) came with a suitable sump?

nearly all later XU engines have a baffle of some sort, even the diesels!

I've used the late 1.8 and 2.0 trapdoor sumps on track engines with no additional baffling and very pleased to report no sight of loss of pressure yet.

when i was looking for info on sumps for my Mi16 the other week someone came up with a really useful post. There are three types, Alloy A/C, alloy non A/C and Steel.

I used a GTi6 ones, which is an XU10 Alloy A/C. I'm led to believe all a GTI6 sump is, is a std XU10 Alloy A/C sump.

I'll be posting pics soon of what i've done to mine if you're interested

Please do Phil. There's a scrapyard down the road from me without about 22 406's in it, but not a single S16 or GTi6 :) I couldn't really see the S16 sump as being all that 'special' in the greater scheme of things and figured there has to be one fitted to 406's. Now that my engine is out, it'd be a good time to check it :)

So basically go find an 8v XU 406/306 petrol/diesel engine with an alloy sump and get your size 11mm socket and extension out.
