suth82 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Hi, I've just rebuilt my Mi16 engine after the big end bearings going at high revs. I would like to install an aftermarket rev limiter to prevent this happening again but dont know much about them. Im running weber twin 45's an 8v distributer and old style coil. How to the aftermarket limiters link into the system? Paul
GTI6BOY 29 Posted May 3, 2008 Dont the mi16 have a standard limit on already?
Rom 0 Posted May 3, 2008 I think they hook into the coil wiring, where they can sense the rpm and kill the feed to limit it. Is the ecu binned ? Or is it kept for some stuff. As the limiter in that should still be useable.
boombang 2 Posted May 3, 2008 If it's running 8valve coil setup and carbs there will be no ECU. The Mi16 ECU limits (as I understand it) when the ignition map ends, 8valve ECUs cut fuelling as has permanent spark with coil setup and engine running. An aftermarket limiter sends the spark to earth thereby cutting the spark to the plugs. Any of them you buy would come with instructions anyhow.
