Fitting Weber 45's

Recommended Posts

dommorton

I'll be embarking on the fitting of Weber 45's to my 1991 1.9 8 Valve tomorrow.

Having taken a quick squint at the car and reading a few threads and How To's etc I'm still left with a few questions.

What can I do with the coil? :D it's the later type that sits on top of the inlet manifold.

Is it usual to keep it and just re-home it somewhere else in the engine bay? if so does anyone have a suggestion of a good home and way of mounting.

Or would it be a better bet to switch to an older wet coil? If so does the wiring need to be changed? :D

The other question is what to do with all the breathers? do I leave most of them be and just vent the main one from the filler cap off to a bottle?

I've also read the engine mount metal work will need some cutting to clear the manifold. Is this the case with an 8v too?

I see the general consensus is to remove the pipe for the vac advance on the dizzy. Is this a good idea? do I need to alter the timing at all to compensate?

All answers and any other tips gratefully received :D

Hi, i'll try to answer your questions as best as possible but my carbs are on an mi16 so some things may be different.

I had to change to the old type coil and make up its own wiring loom between the ignition amp and dizzy, this is pretty simple and a diagram can be found on here.

The other question is what to do with all the breathers? do I leave most of them be and just vent the main one from the filler cap off to a bottle?

I would recomend a catch tank and route all the breathers into it, this prevents any of the muck being pulled back into the engine.

I did have to cut a bit out of the Mi16 mount but dont know if you will have to on the 8v.

Remove the pipe and blank it, the best answer is to install a dizzy with a modified advance curve.

Nice one thanks Paul.

I mostly fitted them today, and got it running on the standard coil. I'm guessing so long as I can mount it somewhere it'll be fine??

Yeah chuck the coil anywhere  Aslong as its mounted somewhere and not dangling !

Mines over where the 8v coil normally goes. As i didnt have the bracket to mount it to my inlet. Ill get one oneday :)
