Sloppy Gear Linkage

Recommended Posts

joni

My 205 gear linkage has lots of play which means occasionally i get the wrong gear and the linkage can pop off.

What are my options for eliminating this play? Can i replace the plastic cups in the existing gear links? IF so where do i get them as my local peugeot dealer said they couldn't provide?

Cheers

i have a sloppy gear linkage the the moment, and have been told to check that my L bracket is tight on the subframe so it might be worth starting there,

IIRC you can't buy just the plastic inserts. For the price they cost from Pug you can buy uprated repalcements. I'm sure someone will come up with at URL for ordering one. It is worth checking the L bracket from the subframe for play also. The bearings can be replaced from this also.

It is worth getting some uprated linkages with metal cups (nylon bushed) that have a grub screw to hold them in place. I think Miles on here sells them.

That will take care of some of the play, also check the Y-shaped pivot bars. These work their way loose and you can acheive a hell of a lot by tightening them up.

Finally consider getting a quickshift kit (I've got a Skip Brown one) because some of the play is in the actual rod going into the box. Any play in this is multiplied by the y-bars, smaller movement in the y-bars = less play in the stick. A qucikshift kit is essentially just different geo y-bars.

Hope this helps.
