Alternator Mounting Xu10 Turbo

Recommended Posts

Anton green

Well I got the Mi16 engine out on Saturday and got the turbo motor in too. (which I'm fairly happy about seeing as I have never done this before and the friends who said they'd help me turned out to be handilly unavailable so I was working by myself) [/rant]

A few things have become obvious now the engine is in the bay -when the lump was on my homemade trolley in the garage I thought I may be able to do something to use the alternator bracket which was in position on the turbo engine, as it didnt seem to be excessively in the way. Now I can clearly see that this will foul the radiator as someone previously mentioned on the forum, and cant readilly be used.

Does someone have a compact proven way to mount the alt, or good suggestions? If not I'll look over the area in more detail at this weekend

cheers

Do a search :( iirc i used non aircon model xantia xu10 engine tensioner and bracket, also zx desel models have a good setup iirc too.

Your not too far away if you get stuck i could lend a hand, theres also at least three suitable doners in a local scrapyard if you get stuck for parts. :(

Hi Anton, How I did it on mine, was to use a mount from a 406 n/a engine that I got from the breakers,

had thrown the xu10Turbo mount in the bin previously so this was a winner for me!

Bolt's upto the block in the same manner, but differs in design as you can see, I still lopped off the PAS pump mount

just for good measure though:

Used a couple of long shank bolts and spacers at the top and the lower swing tensioner off the 205.

Seen quite a few other methods on here also though. :D

Sam.

that is a gti6 mount. Best way by far is to use a gti6 mount with pas pump bracket cut off and a gti6 alternator. You then need a mi16 lt belt tensioned witha mi16 cambelt tensioner. Very reliable setup and looks pukka too. I have all these bits in stock if you need the bits cheap

ps a gti6 alternator bolts straight on withourt having to fabriacated any brackest or drill any holes etc

The mount pictured is used on nearly every XU10J4R/RS with or without A/C, so there's plenty about, they just weigh a fair bit, but do place the alternator a fair bit higher and closer to the block than the Mi/S16 mounts.

As per above or use the S16 upper mount and lower mounts as per Pics,Depends what you have readily available

cheers all, some good methods there.

I'll have a look around the scrapyard, and B&Q soon to see what is available to make the best job of mounting up.
