mechsmurf 0 Posted April 27, 2008 hi my 1.9 gti has started blue smoking when warm and has a strong smell but its not fuel am i guessing right that it is headgasket or liners to fault ,also takes a few cranks to start from cold and splutters when warming up
Rom 0 Posted April 27, 2008 Blue smoke is oil getting burnt. Could be from valve stem oil seals, piston rings, headgasket etc. A compression test might help show up rings or gasket as it might not hold pressure...but its not a cert Thicker oil will be harder to seep past whatever is leaking. There was a thread last week about the same thing, have a look at that, lots of advice floatign around here
AdamVester 0 Posted April 28, 2008 its probs yeah o-rings had 2 engines with same problem was both down the the rings. but if you think the engine is sound and you willing to pay for the repairs do so.. but you can get a 1.9 gti engine for around £0-£80 these days. a compreshion test will set u back over £10....
