matt-k 0 Posted April 27, 2008 Hello all, after running my mi16 engine for approximatly 5-10 minutes with the expantion tank cap off most of the water gets thrown out the top! If i leave the cap on i can feel alot of pressure in the pipes. There is no water in the oil or vice versa and after removing the head, the gasket looks fine. I had the head skimmed before rebuilding it and after close inspection i cant see any cracks. Is there any other reason the water system would pressurise? I was going to have it pressure tested but its £48+ vat so id rather put that cash towards another head if theres no other reason it would do this? Thanks all for any info, Matt. matt-k 0 Posted April 27, 2008 have you got all the air out I thought that i had but cannot be sure, im going to fit a new head gasket and re-torque with a new torque wrench as the one i used was fairly old so maybe it just wasnt tight enough?? I really dont know! I may as well give it a try and if it still does it then ill replace the head Another thing i noticed after looking at a plumbing diagram for the water system on this forum was that id got the heater hoses the wrong way round, top hose to the bottom pipe on the bulkhead and vive versa. Would this make a difference?

Would this make a difference? only when you're trying to get all the air out through the bleed screw on the hose that's meant to be on the top pipe, so there's probably an air pocket in the heater matrix. AdamVester 0 Posted April 27, 2008 i have the same problem. dont forget some of the mayo will be due to weather. but i put my mi16 into mine the engine was stood for 3 years and had old oil in. i replaced the oil / filter and removed the water oil cooler and it was still doing it. then i was like umm iver rings or a crack.. i noticed it was heating up very hot at times so i changed the thermostate and that sort of got rid of that problem. the headgasket was changed also and the head wasnt skimmed but it looked really good like it just had been. anyway chucked it all together still happening i made sure all my pipes were on correct tryed differtnt ways of putting some of the pipes (leaving some out like the ones going to the TB). none of that worked so i just got some STOP LEAK stuff from the gurage and chucked it in the water system.. gave the car a good booting and made double sure all the air was out the system... after a few trips the problem is getting better and better i have a little water in the cap but not much. whats in the cap atm could be discribed as condensation due to weather. still i think i got a hairline crack someware and the stop leaks just blocked it temp. but yeah mine was spitting water up really really bad took cap off and i was getting shot with water but not trace of water in the sump at all :S.... if u can think of anything else i havent tryed i would be interested in knowing. chances are u got a crack like i think i have or the gasket just didnt seal right.
