jord294 92 Posted April 26, 2008 (edited) hi in the process of fully rebuilding a 1.9 xu engine, i am stuck already. is there supposed to be a gasket between the housing gasket plate and the block. it's the plate with the small oil seal for the crankshaft. i have marked it up on picture with a yellow arrow (please ignore the finger) i have checked the gasket set that i have, and checked on the peugeot parts catologue, but can't find one. should i just make a gasket, or use silicone sealant? thanks Edited April 26, 2008 by jord294

welshpug 1,657 Posted April 26, 2008 I guess you call it silicone sealant lol people call it different things, I call stuff I use on the car RTV, and stuff in the bathroom silicone.
johnsimister 10 Posted April 26, 2008 RTV ? not sure what you mean sorry It stands for Room Temperature Vulcanising, ie it hardens without heat once in contact with air.
mattmk1 0 Posted April 26, 2008 You do get a thick card gasket if you buy a payen bottom end gasket set .
philfingers 5 Posted April 26, 2008 hylomar (or hydromar can't remember) 'blue' i find the best. use a thin model type brush and put it on thin. Leave to dry 10 mins then fit. this way you dont get too much on and with a brush you get it everywhere it's supposed to go
jord294 92 Posted April 26, 2008 never thought about it before but just had a look on 2 engines i have spare. one engine looks like it has a gasket, and the other looks like instant gasket has been used. anyway, an empty porridge oats box and a small pein hammer have just made me a suitable gasket. just to be on the safe side, i will also put a thin bead of instant gasket thanks for the advice
