Noisy Fuel Pump! Help Before I Go Mad!

Recommended Posts

Headling

hi guys, as you know i am running a 2.0 turbo 205, it has ali tank in boot and is a stripped out track car, I am getting it ready for the MOT and my trip to Le mans in it in June but....

My fuel pump is driving me mad!i cant listen to that for 4 -5 hours!

I have a 405 fuel pump mounted in side the car, it makes a high pitched squel, then some gurgling noise's ( sorry bit hard to discribe noise's! ).

Is my fuel pump knackered? is it because its in the car? where can i get a good in fuel pump on-line, facet etc??? or shall i buy a brand new 405 one as my one came from the scrap yard.

Mine is using standard pump and some times i can hear that. Yours is probably amplified by your nice shiny alloy tank. can you maybe insulate the tank with somting from a rally specialist?

Hi Mark,Sounds like your pump has had it ,they should be nice and quiet in operation,You could always replace it with something similar mounted outside the passenger compartment i.e. under the boot floor ,I think if you have a look at the thieving tweeks site they do std in line pumps.

Or the other option of course is to find a submersible pump like the original unit and mount and get that mounted into you alloy tank.

Good luck !

I see. i didnt realise it was out of the tank. Like whizzer suggests, why not mount a pump out side? Vauxhall 2.0 16v pump maybe? Try local scrappys for a bargain . i think Vaux ones have a protective shield fitted to it.
