Compression Test Results

Recommended Posts

Goliath

I did a compression test on my under performing 1.6 (xu5j i think) and the results were 160psi (11 and a bit bar) evenly across all the cylinders, anyone know what the compression is meant to be in psi? the haynes manual only gives me compression ratio (9.8:1) but i dont know what that equates to in psi.

p.s. the reason i think the compression is messed up is because the previous owner told me that he thought it had a 1.9 head on it and since I've had it its been under performing drastically ;)

No idea on the compression but I believe the 115bhp 1.6 head is the same as the 1.9 head

Dont mean to insult your intelligence but was the engine up to working temp and the throttle wide open when you did the compression test?

does it perchance have the 1.9 cam installed? this IIRC would give a rather flat performing engine, Adam Vester had similar problems with one of his fleet not too long ago.

should be warm so the the tolerances are all nice and tight. between 160 and 200 is good tho. If that's a cold figure then warm should be better. My old 8v was 200, 200, 198 & 200 which is ok.

The fact there isn't much spread is good measure of if anything is wrong.

sorry can't help on cam identification. BUt if you look at the thread i posted on Mi16 4x4 cams there a lead in there to some website which has 8v in
