Circular Patch In Rear Lhs Passenger Footwell

Recommended Posts

Simes

Removed my carpet today to clean it up....looks nice!

I thought I'd remove the sound dead'ning material in the rear footwells to laugh at the rust but fortunately there wasn't any.

However there is a circular cut out with a circular cover over it, my guess is it that as a hole it was needed in the manufacturing process. Anyway one of these 'circles' (one on each side) is coming away and leaking in water when driving. It seems to be bonded in place by some sort of sealant.

Would anyone happen to know what I could use to bond this back together?

ta.

Any waterproof sealer should be fine.

I used some black RTV type stuff on mine. Which i liberate from work (Toyota), it retails for an insane price of around £50 for a very small tube.but it is the best sealer i have ever used.

Still daylight robbery though !

I doubt that patch is letting in water. If you have wet sound deadening it's more likely a leak from higher up such as the window seals etc. Still, can't hurt to seal it anyway.

The sound deadening is only damp directly above that area and of a similar size. The window seals were changed for new ones a couple of years ago and to add the car lives in a garage so is not so susceptible to rain unless it is driven which it hasn't been for about 2 weeks.

Plus I forgot to add that the patch is loose and I can see the road through it! ;)

I cut some steel circles on the lathe and seam welded them to the floor!

hmm, as daft as it may sound, is it worth me spending a few hours to remove my seats and carpet to check for rust, if so do i need to remove my centre console ?

That was my initial thought on the project but my welding just creates larger holes!

I used silicone sealer in the end.

Yes, to remove the carpet completely. If you've had the seats out before it shouldn't take more than an hour. If you haven't well...The threads of 4 out of 5 of the bolts are exposed to the elements so can be a little tough.
