Towards the screen. In other words clockwise if viewed from the dizzy end.

Standing on the passenger side of the car, rotating the dizzy clockwise advances and anti-clockwise retards.

lol apologies, I often get confused with the dizzy as I've always had better results turning it forwards

Either way just have a play to find the best setting, it doesn't matter which way its turned as long as it makes it run better, make sure the VAC advance works or you'll get great performance low down and nothing up top, or vice versa.

If you are confused, refrain from posting then. We will NOT tolerate nonsense or half-arsed information.

Frankly, even your reply confuses me slightly and makes me think that you don't really have a clue what you are doing when adjusting the dizzy.

Over advanced and it will pink and loose power, over retarded and it will loose power (also feels a bit flat/lifeless). Pinking is bad for an engine so generally cars are slightly on the retarded side. You could also get into a discussion about advance curves but that would be a long thread!

Oh and idle ignition timing has a quite strong effect on idle speed and stability. Well set idle timing = stronger idle (e.g. faster for a fixed amount of air/fuel)
