philfingers 5 Posted April 23, 2008 From PeterT's website he says the 3 row mapping is about as good as it gets. Also I know the 3 row is better at idling. Is there any massive difference tho between the two, enough to warrant a change from 2 to 3 row ECU? Is a 3 row any better on fuel also, an important consideration these days! 205 Mi16 used for road rallies with 4.4 CWP Phil ps done a search and came u with loads and loads of posts but nothing really totally relevant on a quick look through! Simes 248 2 Cars Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) The three row has a knock sensor, it also 'apparently' develops a little more torque. Edited April 23, 2008 by Simes
philfingers 5 Posted April 23, 2008 is the knock sensor easy to fit into an engine initially equipped with 2 row management?
welshpug 1,657 Posted April 23, 2008 yep, just needs bolting to the block basically!
petert 588 Posted April 23, 2008 Any of the standard 3 rows have better mapping than a 2 row. The 3 row models with knock sensor and O2 sensor (158 and 161) are the pick in my opinion, although the 355 has the best overall standard mapping. The 158/161 will lock on to 14.7:1 at cruise, where as the 355 runs a bit lean in spots, which you can feel in the foot. You can upgrade to 3 row, but you'll need to replace the entire loom and screw a knock sensor stud/assembly into the block. Naturally you can my mapping in which ever chip you want. The std. rev limit on 2 row and 3 row was 7100. Although some reports suggest Mi16x4 had 7400. I can't see how when the ECU's had the same part number. Just journalist talk I think. His car probably had a dodgy tacho.
philfingers 5 Posted April 23, 2008 Thanks Pete, nice concise answer as expected! Looks like it maybe the way forward! The loom that came with the 4x4 (if it is that even) looks like it's been left in a moneky enclosure for them to play with. Most connections broken, pins pushed back etc etc Phil
jackherer 543 Posted April 23, 2008 I've run the same engine on both types of ecu/loom and the differences aren't apparent without a rolling road, I would fit whichever is in best condition.
