Turbloide2 0 Posted April 22, 2008 Hi all while working on the car today i topped up the water tank as it was very low as i did i then noticed water droplets running down the drivers side of the engine and dripping off..... Will this be the water pump leaking ? Car has always ran nice and cool, could it just be the pump garsket that is leaking but the pump is ok ? How hard a job is it to change it and does the cambelt have to be removed also ? Thanks Danny
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted April 22, 2008 It could be the water pump, you'd need to investigate to be sure. If it is, it could be the seal or the pump body. Either way you need to remove the cambelt to get it off, so its worth fitting a new pump and belt whilst you are at it. As for how hard, to me personally not that hard as I've done a few, but how hard you find it depends how much spanner swinging you do/have done!
2-Pugs 57 Posted April 22, 2008 (edited) Sounds like the water pump. I would just fit a new one, they are not that expensive. It is an easy enough job, but you need to remove the cam belt to do it, so provided you are not fazed by that, then give it a go. DamirGTI 342 Posted April 22, 2008 Also check the water distribution housing at the back of the block near the water pump , theres an O ring (on a plastic housing) in between the block surface and the housing (or on early cars/engines it's just sealed with sealant ..), cos leak from this area around water distribution housing sometimes looks a bit like leaky water pump .. Rgs ! Damir
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted April 23, 2008 If you change the water pump please use an OE one. I've seen pictures of pattern ones and OE ones after 5000miles and I know which one I'd want.
