Billbatov 0 Posted April 20, 2008 Hi All, I'm considering using injector cleaner, firstly is this a good idea? Secondly which should I use? Bill
Rom 0 Posted April 20, 2008 I use one regularly, but i skank it from work Its made for Toyota by Scotts. If i was paying, i probably wouldnt use as often as i do. Although i had my injectors cleaned when i rebuilt my engine. So guess im goign for prevention rather than cure I think most of the brands are much the same tbh. Id probably stick to soemthing like Wynns or STP. If you think there bad..get them done properly.

I'm not sure how bad they are to be honest, it was something my Dad suggested to help with the idleing... I'll give it a try and see what happens!!
Rom 0 Posted April 20, 2008 Dirty injectors will cause poor overall performance etc. The idling could be any number of things. 205 are renowned for idleing ! Do a search see what it brings up. Theres a wealth of knowledge on here.
DamirGTI 342 Posted April 20, 2008 You can't clean them with injector cleaner additives (well maybe if they are just slightly blocked/dirty .. also theres 10% of the products which actually do help a bit and 90% which don't do nothing but empty your pockets so buy carefully ! ..) The biggest problem is scale sediment which blocks out the injector nozzles and the only proper way of cleaning is – ultra sound , ultrasonic cleaning which breaks/melts down the scale sediments inside the injectors (and some sort of fluid is also in use during the cleaning ) .. My advice is , don't bother with cleaning additives , remove the injectors by yourself (cos it'll be cheaper !) and get them cleaned on ultrasonic cleaning machine (ask around your town which garage has an ultrasonic injector cleaning machine) ... It's not so cheap (it'll cost around 10.00quid per injector ..) but it's the only proper way to clean them Also one interesting note , from the "A. Graham Bell" Book : ""For many years oil companies have been adding injector cleaner "detergent" to ordinary pump petrol to ensure injectors provide consistent long-term fuel metering . Those who market injector cleaners , and also those who market injector cleaning machines maintain that you need their product or service because , when a vehicle is switched off engine heat quickly boils fuel in the injector tip leaving behind a varnish deposit which will not be removed by the detergent fuel companies add to their petrol . Fuel companies counter this by saying they have the chemist and lab facilities to formulate what is required to keep injectors clean , and they add that introducing another detergent into the fuel could cause injector deposits to form from the two detergents reacting against each other ! or from one cancelling out the detergent effects of the other ."" So stick with one patrol brand if you can . Rgs ! Damir
Billbatov 0 Posted April 20, 2008 hmm that's something to think about, I'll get a mate to help me with removing the injectors! I'm a real spazmatron when it comes to engines. I think I'll need to study a Haynes manual and in time i'll build some confidence. Bill
Rom 0 Posted April 20, 2008 Lucas do injector cleaning for about 12 quid each or something iirc. But theres plenty of places online etc that can do them too. Didnt know that about fuel Damir..but i have only ever used Optimax / V Power since i rebuild my engine.
