Finally Finished My New Engine

Recommended Posts

tony perks

Putting finishing touches to my new 2041cc engine for the 205 rally car, using iron gti6 block, ford 88mil pistons and 1.9 crank.

Question which engine mounts and alternator brackets do i use? none of the 205 stuff is even close?, By the way its 8v not 16.

You'll need the gti6 top engine mount arm, the other two should be a direct fit. I think the alternator bracket issue has been discussed before, have a browse through some of the gti6 conversion threads.

Nice one Tony, I'd be interested in how this runs.

Thinking of doing something similar for mine.

I don't know how the GTi6 block differs from the S16 block (which I have on my 2.2litre), but be prepared for some angle grinder action concerning the alternator mounting with a bit of creativity.

I used the S16 bracket so I knew it bolted to the block & lined up with the dowels, and angle ground off the extra bits (for PAS/AC whatever) leaving a rather bland looking - but functional - lower bracket.

The adjustable part - for me anyway - using 205 parts didn't give the adjustment I needed, so I simply wandered around a scrappy and found a bracket from an Audi (after all it's just a piece of metal with a hole at one end and a slot/mechanism for tightening) and mod'd (read: welded it straight) to make it work. It's brilliant.

Engine mount wise there's always a simple solution, so don't get phased by it, maybe using the GTi6 top arm as suggested or maybe even a ZX jobbie. Always consider the Burton (IIRC) top engine mount option for an RS2000, which is slightly shorter avoiding master cylinder clearance issues hopefully because I gather your block is now taller than it was.

GTi6 + S16/2.0 Mi16 blocks are pretty damn near identical, in this case they are identical the only difference being the brackets they make use of.

Best bracket and arm to use would be the S16 non-a/c one, as well as the S16 non-a/c alternator bracket, with a custom tensioner.

dont know what i was thinking i was looking at a 406 20.l engine at work they have a much different mounting all i need is the 205 mount that bolts to the head and a bracket that bolts to the block to take the front bolt, which i can fabricate and incorporate the alternator bracket too, thanks for your replys and help i will post some pics when all finished.
