Recommended Posts

its a 1991 205 gti 1.9 everything is back on and car now runs, lots of white smoke out the back of exhaust could this be it burning off water inside exhaust? as head gasket blew in a big way and exhaust was full of water when it happened.

any help much apreciated.

Possibly yes, you'll have to monitor it. When starting it up from cold does it pressurise the water hoses straight away? If it does then you are in trouble.

what would that indicate? exhaust gasses in coolant?

if it was me mate i would give car a decent run and keep eye on temp gauge and make sure heater is blowing hot air out.If all is ok there check the coolant again and see if its dissapeared. When u remove the expansion cap is there much pressure there, should be small amount but not bloody loads. Also have you changed the oil after doin the head, if all seems ok it is the excess water coming out of exhaust.i done loads of k series rovers and it takes a bloody good run to stop them smoking when the heads on them go.

Henry 1.9GTi

after doing head gasket on my 1.9 it poured white smoke out of the exhuast. Was quite funny really :)

filled up a cylinder with water when it went so must have been loads caught in the exhaust. Smoke started to die down after 5 miles or so and dissappeared after 20-30 miles driving.

well there was noticably less smoke after i ran it up to temperature second time. there was not alot of pressure although the water had rised right to the top of the expansion bottle when i eased the cap off. although i have a feeling thats because of the fact i over filled. not really using any coolant, one the pipes has a tiny hole in it which i have now sealed.

on another note when i went to take the plugs out to check colour after running car the ht cap for plug number 1 came off the lead so no doubt that wasnt helping matters. new one to be purchased tommorow. lol

fingers crossed. any views on my situ as always are welcome.

thank you
