Gti6 Head On Alloy Mi Block

as above is it possible to fit the gti6 head onto the alloy mi16 bottom end and if so what head gasket would you use(presume gti6),and what tensioners and cambelt would be used any more problems,

I'd be interested in what this produces, BUT I've chatted at some length to Sandy about the XU10J4R/RS heads, and in spite of it allowing the use of a GTi6 exhaust manifold, the simplicity of the head reducing slightly chances of oil surge and being able to fill with oil via the cam cover, I'm now not so convinced there's a major benefit to be had by using the GTi6 head.

 

I'm staying Mi head until I'm convinced otherwise, as Sandy mentioned some of the fattest torque deliveries he's seen have been from the Mi/S16 head.

 

(If I've misquoted him, I apologise in advance; but that was my understanding).

its all down to sprint and hillclimb rules allowing the use of any head aslong as the block is of the original type and my engine builder who knows matt at qep says that Matt recommends the gti6 head over the mi head all day long,i need to decide as i have both heads ready to start working on either one so can it be done as i dont want to make hard work for myself

The main difference with the GTi6 head is the smaller chambers (useful CR gain on Mi16 block) and narrower valve throats/inside angle cut, which generally should make it more responsive and possibly improve mid range power. For bigger engines (over 2.0), there's probably not much between them as Rich sort of quotes ( :wub: ), but on smaller capacity engines the GTi6 would particularly I think, show itself to be better.

 

The best XU torque I'd seen until two days ago was 94lbft/litre from QEP S16 head (with one of my TB inlet manifolds) on a 2.1 and Shillaber Mi16 head on a 2.2. But two days ago the 1.8 I built with Shillaber ported XU7J4 head made 97lbft/litre, my new record!
