Just Pulled My Oil Pump Apart

And something is puzzling me, shouldn't this thing have a ball bearing at the end of the spring?

Plunger type thing? I am worried now as I dont recall anything in mine? There was a kinda round sleeve on the pump side that the oil spring went through and nothing on the other end that went into the pickup

No idea what that is! I only had what looked like a small sleeve type thing which sat in the pump and the spring went into that. Does anyone have some photos of a Mi16 pump taken apart? Really dont want to put it all back together to find out its not working at all!

The plunger deelee can stay in the pump when the spring is removed, have a good look round inside the pump.

Bolted back together now heh. Where does this plunger bit go. Is it in the hole on the pump side where the spring goes in?

Just had my Mi16 pump apart to fit a Gti6 spring.

The plunger sits in the body part of the pump almost right next to the pump gears. The plunger doesen't usually fall out too easily so chances are it will still be in there I would say.

You could just finish the build and spin the engine over on the starter with coil disconnected so it wont start. As long as the oil pressure builds up ok the plunger must be in there as without it the oil would just drain back to the sump….

It's just a small piston on the end of a spring. The piston goes into the pump body next to the gears. There isn't anything on the other end of the spring. The piston may still be in the pump body.

Is it the small tube/cylinder thing circled below, that seemed to slide in and out although I didnt pull it all the way out. The pump spring goes in to that hole and through it on the pump side. Or is it something else, if so I will have to look in the old sump and the floor of the garage!cheers

edit: did another post and it put it onto this one! anyway, ah heh beat me to it, looks like I am ok then, got confused with it being called a plunger thats all ;)
