eob 7 Posted April 18, 2008 My Mi16 engine was a bit worse for wear when I decided to rebuild it, so, alas the oil->water heat exchanger was left hanging off in the mud, which is now caked in it and impossible to clean properly. After a bit of searching, I've discovered that most people reckon the oil->water cooler is a bit pointless and doesn't really do much anyway, so I want to scavenge an oil pick-up from another car, I have a diesel engine and my old 8valve, but how do you remove the oil pick up from a standard car from the block? I tried using a bit of cardboard to protect the threads, clamping a vice grip on and turning anti-clockwise but no dice. Suggestions? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
sutol 0 Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) If you mean the big nut that holds it to the block behind the oil filter then you will need a big socket. Its a bugger because its not very thick but it does come off. I just forget the size By the way, if you're discarding the oil warmer thingy then you wont need the nut and tube bit so don't worry about the threads, unscrew it, chuck it, and screw filter direct to block. Hoever, if you look at an 8V engine, there is a little bit that sticks out of the block which you can use to screw a filter on to. That thin nut is welded to a tube which is (female) threaded at the block end and is just an extension pipe for the oil filter to screw on to. There is a male bit sticking out of the block . My one is an ally block 16V and I just took the oil cooler/warmer bit off and screwed my oil filter direct to the block, it was the same on an old 205td block that I had as well. The spacer / take off casting for the oil cooler pipes on my 1.9 engine is also similar, e.g. take off and screw filter direct to block. Is yours the later cast 16v? if so can't help I think there is a female to male bit that screws into the block, I'll check tomorrow..
