Mi Non Start After Stalling

Recommended Posts

Rom

Evenign guys.

Ive had this ever since i put my Mi in, basically..if it stalls..due to my error mostly <_< It wont restart. It turns over, but wont start.

Once left for about 10 mins, it fires up fine. I thought it might be flooded or something, but injectors should cut off as soon as it stalls ?

Its a pain in the ass when u stall in traffic or something. If you turn it off, it will restart fine. Its only if it stalls.

Any ideas ?

My Mi16 does this too, once it did it in finsbury park at rush hour. Not fun!!!

Ive tried to replicate it under more controlled conditions but it restarts fine....

Ive found loads of throttle ususally helps, but i cant offer any thing more constructive than that!

Adam, i think the OP means it cranks on the starter but wont fire. rulling out the starter motor

When I was having issues with starting my Mi conversion I used the coil from my old 8v and the engine would turn over but not fire even with fuel and spark, replaced the coil and it fired up straight away.

James is right..

It always cranks over. Just wont fire, as if its flooded or something. Its only after i stall it due to bad clutch control. Something must happen when it stalls, that wont let it restart. As i can turn it off and restart whenever. But stall it, and it wont restart for around 10 mins.

Ive tried to replicate it James, but not managed to B) And it only happens in rush hour of course :D Be too easy to happen when its quiet !

I cant really think of much to be honest. My initial thought was overfuelling, but obviously the injectors should cut off as soon as it stalls i think ? The pump is still live but nothing should be telling injectors to fire.

It seems the more you try to restart it, te longer you have to wait. If im patient enough to leave it for about 10 mins it will start. But if i try after maybe 5, ill have to wait another 10 ! Youd think id learn by now

The fact it only does it after its stalled is confusing me. As anything electrical / loose etc should do it anytime. Not only after its stalled.

Im glad someone else has experianced this though, at least i know its not just me !

Try the ignition amplifier and fuel pump relay, mine did the same when turning off the engine - wouldnt re-start, not sure why yours only does it when stalling though?!

Hmm..now you mention those :)

I dont know what igniton amp im using. I remember buying a new 8v one. But not sure if thats in there, or if i used the 16v one on the loom i bought. Are they interchangable ? ANy pros / cons to usign 8v on 16v etc?

As for the fuel pump relay. It has played up once or twice. But its always been go to car..wont start..fiddle with relay..car starts. (on an endless to do list:p)

I can hear when the pump is running, and its defo runnign when i have this problem. But i do need to sort that relay !

Not sure if its the same part, id guess it is though, as for the relay, when mine went a few years ago, peugeot wanted around £70 if i remember correctly, most other motor factors said 'main dealer only' but Partco sold them for £17! (this was three years ago though)

Im not entirely sure how mine is running atm. When it went in, i couldnt get it to run. An auto electrician i know popped round got it going. But im not entirely sure what he did as i wasnt there.

I have a relay under the bonnet, in the main loom for the new engine, just before it splits to the loom for coil / starter / alt etc. Thats the relay that i have to fiddle with if fuel pump isnt running.

But thats not the Tachy relay everyone goes on about is it? I dunno if it still uses the one in glovebox aswell or instead.

The whole things apart atm, so will be a couple of weeks before i can try anything. Gonna spend soem time doign wirign better etc.

if the problem remains then you could try putting a hidden switch in the injectorlive wire, then when you stall switch off the injectors, crank a few times to clear the flood and then switch them back on. Should fire straight up then

Mine used to do it all the time, id have to restart it with throttle to get it going. However, if i just switched the engine off normally and then restarted it (when hot), it would fire straight away...

Hi there,as a newbe here I hope you dont mind me throwing my experience in to the mix??? I had this exact problem with my 1.9 8v on a road rally last year, different engine I know. I stalled the car on muddy white and it wouldn't restart almost flattening the battery,I left it for around the same period of time and found nothing wrong under the bonnet so decided to give it another go and first turn of the key it fired up. At the time the engine was running hot and run twin fans on it now and never had this problem since,I thought it could've been down to possible heat soak? I'm no expert but it was the only thing I could think of??

it does seem to be heat related , the engine runs perfect but if the temp gauge goes over the 4th bar and i stall the engine it wont start until it has cooled down to the 3rd bar, i have changed the ignition amp , ecu temp sensor , afm and ecu, its been fully serviced ie plugs leads cap and rotor but nothing has made any difference, its very annoying in traffic
