djinuk 2 Posted April 17, 2008 I have a magnex 4 branch manifold , centrebox and backbox on my 1.9 8x 205 , however the manifold connects onto the centrebox on a small ball joint, which rely s on a spring either side to hold it air tight, unfortunately these springs have lost tension and its blowing, a similar design can be seen on motorbike race cans. Anyway i was wondering if anybody else has had similar experience in these, as i am told magnex no longer supply the springs.
dan9 0 Posted April 17, 2008 I've used "normal" steel exhausts with this fixing (downpipe to centre pipe on my rallye in fact). I'd be surprised if your local exhaust centre (Kwik Fit etc) didn't have a few in their workshop. You can probably buy them from other exhaust suppliers too. Or you could bodge it and just clamp up the balljoint tight with bolts (no springs)?!
Peetypug 5 Posted April 17, 2008 i sold my ful magnex system recently i was pissed off with it so much, i was going to get a flexi bit welded on to replace the ball bit never got a price but its another option

Springs are there for a reason, to allow a little movement in the exhaust, without the springs your exhaust may crack.
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted April 17, 2008 (edited) There is a thread on this somewhere about which springs to use. Don't weld up the joint as previously mentioned it's there for a reason as your engine does move! EDIT: Found it http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...=magnex+springs Edited April 17, 2008 by Simes

jackherer 543 Posted April 17, 2008 The flexi sections sorrentopete is referring to are excellent, my mates exhaust used to start blowing at the merest touch of a speedramp but with one of those it can take no end of abuse.
djinuk 2 Posted April 17, 2008 awesome, thanks for your help, im going to weld in a flexi, just out of interest what bore is the exhaust going to be?
djinuk 2 Posted April 18, 2008 any body got any idea on the exhaust diameter ?. need to know what size flexi to order
Baz 421 Posted April 18, 2008 Erm, measure it?? Springs are there for a reason, to allow a little movement in the exhaust, without the springs your exhaust may crack. They do anyway... all the ones i've had were.
hengti 2 Posted April 18, 2008 the steel used in the Magnex manifold seems 'ok' but the welding isn't the best; if you're replacing the knuckle joint with a flexi and are having it TiG welded (best to), ask the welder to run over the pipe to flange joints and have a good look at the collector welds too
DirtyFlare 0 Posted April 18, 2008 I had the same issue about the springs, i went to magnex direct for replacement springs, they sold me two at over £10 EACH! and to add insult to injury they were the wrong ones Ive just sourced some 70mm exhaust springs, which are meant for a bike end can and only cos me £5 for 4. If this doesnt work then Im going to get a flexi joint welded in place.

I just used Akrapovic bike exhaust springs worked perfectly, any bike exhaust springs will work aslong as they are similar size. Have a look on ebay, there is loads on there.
