JeffR 51 Posted April 13, 2008 My lardy 405 Mi track car at 1075kgs needs all the help it can get from the engine dept., so what options are there in fitting larger diam. liners to an alloy blocked high C.R. Mi16? As they say, no replacement for displacement! Trawling the archives suggests the 85mm liners are less than ideal. Assuming they are 'drop-in' liners with no block machining req'd, does the liner skirt becomes too thin to effectively support/constrain the piston loads? I've heard blocks can be machined for 86-87mm liners? This seems a better alternative given more options(incl forged pistons) available. This modification would work well with the current Mi BV head (on an 83.5mm bore up to 86-7mm, & also dovetail into a planned J4R/RS head on the alloy bottom end further down the track. Besides the BTCC has anyone gone this route before?
Sandy 191 Posted April 13, 2008 Proceed with caution. It's a bit of a straw poll, but all the engines running greater than 84mm I've been able to follow have been unreliable.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted April 13, 2008 A couple of people I know have built a few 86mm ones of these with good results, circa 230bhp from a 8v and have been re-liable for a out and out Race engine, There was a bad batch of liners from a company once but that was changed and it was never really a issue,
