vern 0 Posted April 11, 2008 How much does using a thicker head gasket lower the compression ratio, for example using a 1.6 mm one instead of a standard one. The engine is a 1.9 GTi engine.
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted April 11, 2008 When I did some calculations not very much at all. A mate of mine does cylinder heads and is opening out the chambers for me to lower the CR a bit.
Anthony 1,003 Posted April 11, 2008 Quick calculation on the back of a post it suggests a 0.5mm thicker head gasket would only reduce the CR from 9.6:1 to around 9.2:1, and I'm not sure that repair HG's are even as much as 0.5mm thicker.
vern 0 Posted April 11, 2008 Cometic do a 1.6 mm gasket. What is the thickness of a standard head gasket.
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted April 11, 2008 I think the standard one is 1.35mm (and I've measured one at this) and then there is a thicker one at 1.5mm designed to compensate for a skimmed head.
