Swapping Boot Locks

I have a new tailgate which is re-sprayed.

 

I want to put my existing tailgate lock on this new tailgate - so the key will remain the same.

 

Are they hard to remove and refit? any advice?

take the black panel off the inside of the boot

then there is a plate type thing (once out its U shaped) that pulls out and release's the lock

if you have central locking then you need to undo the wire/bar that conects to the lock itself

then fitting is the reverse

prize the plastic cover off the back of the tail cover

 

then you'll need a large flat blade screwdriver and there is just a large clip that slides around the lock and sits into grooves cut in the slide of the lock. Just use your screwdriver to prize the clip off.

Easy.

 

Remove the inner black plastic cover/trim, and you'll see the boot lock secured by a U shaped clip - prise that out, withdraw the lock (unclipping the central locking rod if you've got it), and then refit

Maybe worth putting some silicon around the lock from the inside. Isn't the lock a potential point for leaks?

Id run a bit of silicon around the inside as well. Theres normally a gasket but all the oens Ive seen have dissapered so a bit of silicon makes it nice and watertight

Just went to collect my newly sprayed tailgate, the guy leant it up against the workshop wall, and a gust of wind blew it over!!!!

Scratches all over the front, a mess. He is going to re-do it for monday.

 

Bah!!!!!

 

(the bonnet looks good though)
