Hanging A Bonnet

Is it hard to hang a bonnet straight, is there a trick to it, or do you just stick it back on and keep fiddling till it seems straight?

 

By the wasy im paying £150 for the bonnet and boot to be sprayed in sorrento green. I will tell you what the quality is like with pics when I get them back.

its not particularly hard, but its a lot easier with 2 or 3 pairs of hands (and bodies attached of course)

 

do they not want the car complete so they can match the paint?

he has the bonnet and the boot to match it to.

 

Plus he said with this pearly dark colour, youll never tell the slight difference after a good clean.

Put a bit of tape on the corners of the bonnet so you dont scratch it. :blush:

I usually find that if you tighten the nuts just enough to hold the bonnet so it cant be moved by hand, it more than likely will pull itself into position. I.d make sure the male catch on the bonnet was all freed off prior to painting and set it so the bonnet is initially slightly too high - avoids those nasty indents you get from pushing it closed too hard against the rubber stops.

^^^^^^ Too right. Take the striker pin out of the bonnet whilst adjusting it. That way you dont need to keep poping the release. :blush: as long as the rubber buffers that determine the height are on, its just a case of aligning the bonnet with the nose of the wings.

Is it a new bonnet or have you just had your existing one resprayed?

 

If your just putting the old one back on, then when you insert the hinge bolts you'll see marks where the bolts were before you took it off (a small circle where the impression of the washer was). Ensure you line these up exactly as they were before, and 9 times out of 10 it'll be perfectly aligned so there's no need to mess around :(

 

If it's a new bonnet, then follow Steve and Craigs advice of removing the bonnet striker, and not tightening the bolts fully :(
