Best Standard Exhaust?

Recommended Posts

shredmaster73

Hi,

I need a new exhaust for my non cat 1.9 but I'm unsure what to go for. I have a stainless back box (make unknown) and a standard mid box and the noise is unbearable - I have to wear earplugs and still I end up with tinitis!!

I've read quite a bit about exhausts on 205's and many say you can't beat a standard original but I rang my local Pug dealer and was quoted £303!!! A friend of mine said it may be because the only parts they have now are all stainless steel - hence the price - I'm not so sure about this. I like the idea of the piper system, my mate has one on his 106 and the sound, quality and performance are all great but many say these type of systems won't give any power gains and can LOOSE power (on 205's)!!

The Des developements systems seem great but it's out of my price range.

I'm happy to go with a standard patent part but how do I ensure I get a good version, I've heard cheapy ones can restrict power.

Also, mine is a 2 part system (downpipe & mid box in one piece) no cat, and a back box. I'm never sure what year to ask for as mine is a 91 so should be a 3 part system?

I'm really confused, any advice would be much appreciated!!

Arvin are the best option for OEM spec.

I've got a brand new 3 part system sat in my garage here, never fitted to a car and spare - interested?

Aah thanks guys! That's pretty much what I wanted to hear. Do you know roughly what I'd expect to pay for an Arvin system?

Boombang, how much do you want for your system ? Do you know the manufacturer and is there any difference in performance between 2 & 3 piece systems ?

Thanks

Lee

It's an Arvin Meritor, with split downpipe.

No fitment difference between 2 and 3 piece and can't see any performance difference - just means if one section is damaged you can swap just that bit.

I was after £100ono, just depends if you are ever down this way as if you wanted it posted be cheaper to source a brand new one from a local motor factors for about £120 or so.

Thanks boombang, a reasonable price but as you say, I think you're too far away to make it worthwhile but thankyou anyway. When you say 'split downpipe' is there a piece that devides the pipe into 2 semi-circles where it joins the manifold?

I had a look for Arvin Meritor on the net and it seems to bring up Arvin Timax alot. I've heard of Timax - are they affiliated with Arvin?

Cheers.
