eob 7 Posted April 10, 2008 Following on from this thread: http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...80408&st=10 Trying to get the individual valves out of the head and I can't seem to remove the little 'clips' at the end of the valve spring? Is there a particular way of doing this?
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted April 10, 2008 I'm assuming you've compressed the spring sufficiently to take the load off the collets? If so then a small screwdriver to flick them out of mesh with the valve stem groove or a magnet on a stick to pull them off the valve is how I do it.
eob 7 Posted April 10, 2008 Yup, I had to weld up my own spring compressors and everything! They're loose, but no amount of screwdriver flicking seems to remove them, any thoughts?
Tom Fenton 1,542 Posted April 10, 2008 They need to be able to move sideways to release, not just spin round. Try compressing the spring a bit more.
eob 7 Posted April 10, 2008 Unfortunately I bought a dodgy Laser spring compressor from f**king Halfords which I first had to cut and weld to give it the reach it needed, now it doesn't compress the spring enough (which is what I suspected) so I may lug the head off to someone who knows what they're doing, thanks for the advice
Bally 4 Posted April 10, 2008 Dont let the engineers hear, but I have already shackled down a head by putting a plug socket on top the valve and tap it wit ha rubber mallet retainers came out easily. Was really in a bind , but its not the preferred method.
fletch 0 Posted April 14, 2008 Halfords make a set of Laser compressors with a handle on each end, that should reach ok. I used a magnetic screwdriver for the collets.
