Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted April 9, 2008 Today I've removed the drivers seat from my 205 as its gone to the local trimmers for some repairs. I also took the runners off, mainly to save the trim bloke the hassle. Now looking at the runners it seems the part that provides the tilting action to allow passengers in the back is bolted to the sliding runners and could be removed. If this is done it also appears that the runners could then be bolted direct to the bottom of the seat, thus being the same as 5 door front seat runners. I'm going to try this anyway when the seat comes back, as I'm 6'2" and so the standard seating position is a bit high for my liking. Has anyone ever tried as above? Or is there some reason it will not work? Cheers!
McDude 33 Posted April 10, 2008 Dude you are about a week behind me! But I'm not breaking new ground - this has been tried and tested. You need to get the 5 door seatbelt clasp bracket from your local pug dealer because when you remove your tilt you lose the bit the clasp bolts on to. When you get it you will see it has two 'cotton reels' where the bolts go through. I have removed these as well so that the seat can go even lower. I've also opened out the bracket a little as apparantly removing what I'm calling cotton reels causes a bit of interference. I'm also removing the plastic spacers that the rail sits on and repalcing with washers. I pick my seats up from the refurbishers tonight and will get bolting it all back in - I'll let you know how I get on. In the meantime do a search for 'Seatbelt Clasp' or similar and you will find a few threads explaining this mod in more detail, Including the part number of the bracket. McDude 33 Posted April 10, 2008 Right - it was a fairly straight forward job. The front fixings are a little difficult to access, but no big problems. The only one I have is that the seatbelt clasp now fouls with the handbrake surround. I've removed the surround, but long term I will open up the angles on the clasp so I can put the surround back on. I'd say this is worth the effort, I'm also 6'2" and before my head was grazing the roof when I drove. Now I have air between me and the roof lining and I can get my legs under the steering wheel rather than round it. It will also make wearing a helmet on track days a possibility. At last, the 205 caters for the loftier gent!
Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted April 10, 2008 Great info thank you, I'll have a look for the right seatbelt bracket part number.
