Retro Pug 0 1 Cars Posted April 8, 2008 Hi, I wanted to remove the 6 speed box from the engine as I plan to use either my 1.6 box or use an MI one. My mate removed all the securing bolts and we started to seperate it from the engine, but it will not come off!! It moves out about 15mm and the housing is totally free from the engine but it just wants to spin on the input shaft! Can anyone offer advice? Cheers John. Batfink 201 Posted April 8, 2008 is it in a car or out of the enginebay??
Baz 421 Posted April 8, 2008 Pull it harder?? It should wiggle free, have you undone the top engine mount and let the engine drop slightly gearbox side? Is the the gearbox mount stud getting caught on the inner wing/battery tray?
Retro Pug 0 1 Cars Posted April 8, 2008 Sorry guys, should have said its out of the car complete with the engine. As far as I can see there is nothing left to undo.....
James_R 3 Posted April 8, 2008 The clutch arm?? if it's got the pull cltuch on it then you need to remove the pin that hold the top of the arm on and slide it off the top, the cltuch release bearing is part of the pressure plate, and that's what will be stopping it coming off. Then the pressure plate needs swapping to a push type Mi item.

welshpug 1,657 Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) yup, well a 1.9 one to be precise, the 2.0 Mi clutch is the same as the gti6 one. To get the 6 box off remove the pin as James said. you can see the end of the spring clip that's attached to the pin in this picture, pull the pin out then pull the arm up off the shaft, box should pull off then, dont forget that there are 2 bolts IIRC that thread into/through the sump.
