Needle Positions?

Recommended Posts

craig f90

My car has lockwood dials fitted and the needles seem to be in the wrong places. Im hoping someone would be kind enough to take a pic of there dials when the ignitons off so i can get them in the place'ish. I know there only a guide but.

Also what temp should the cooling fan cut in?

Thankyou.

Craig.

Thankyou, sutol.

Those are the beauties. :( i know the gauges are guess work, but mine are case of guess where they should have been. :( according to yours they are miles out. speedo seems okay, but as for temps, oil press and tacho they are a tad to high with the ignition off. :)

It sure is cold (my new fan switch doesn't agree :( ). Ive just fitted an adjustable fan controler from revotec which cuts in. Alot. :)

There's no battery on that so they as low as low can go.

Theres a thread on here about fan cut in temps but i cant find it. :)

Looking at a standard set of clocks I have with no cover on the needles are as follows;

  • Fuel guage; bottom of needle just level with edge of low fuel light on guage.
  • Oil pressure needle, ame as above on low pressure warning light.
  • Oil temp needle; lower edge of needle just about level with the the top of the first white mark on the guage.
  • Water temp needle; halfway over first white mark. (middle of needle tip level with top edge of white mark).

AFAIK these dials are untouched from new & the only one that looks slightly different to those in sutol's picture is the fuel guage which at least you have a warning light you don't mind seeing when driving along.:)

My cooling fan cuts in when the needle is showing midway between the third thick & last thin mark on the backing.

Graham.

Thanks Graham,

Im gonna take them apart tonight then. (whilst studying this post  .) Your right about the fuel gauge, at least the light works

All of mine are in between the first line and second line on the gauges exept water temp, thats on the second line. Now i know where to aim for the fan to cut in the fan controller wlll be adjusted to where yours cuts in too.

thankyou for your replies,

Craig.
