Uprated Suspension On Xs + Other Questions!

Recommended Posts

Guest Mat_C

I've gone out and bought myself some uprated dampers, (Spax - TGAG1013L/R) but I need some springs.

The original springs are knackered, and the ones I was going to use seem to be far too short.

I've put the original bump stops back on, but with these, I now have no suspension travel at all (well maybe 10-15mm), so thats worse than useless, does anyone know if these dampers have built in bump stops? I've googled a fair bit and can't find any reference to a spec sheet etc. The company i bought them from only sells them, doesn't actually seem to know much about their product!

Secondly, I think I need longer (original size) but uprated, does anyone know of anywhere selling such an item? I need non lowering springs as the car is a "rally car" and I'm fed up with taking chunks out of the sump guard!

I'm also assuming if I get some proper sized springs, the bump stops won't be too much of a problem..

Cheers in advance

Mat

im not sure about standard size stiffer springs, but maybe some with a really small drop might suffice? you didnt mention what drop the ones you tried were, but perhaps you could try -20 ones or something if you can find any, rather than -60 and silly things that some places sell which is a bit low for an xs in my opinion. another option depending on your budget is coilovers, which would give adjustable ride height, optional spring sizes and adjustable damping, but are rather expensive, especially if you've just shelled out on some shocks already, another option is a coilover kit which you can weld on to your shocks so they accept coilover springs which come in a huge variety of length and stiffness etc. but im not too clued up on those, maybe somebody else can offer some advice. other than that whats wrong with the standard springs? maybe try gti ones (not sure if theyre any different tho)

hope that helps a little

I guess a small drop may be ok, but I'd like to keep the car as high as possible really.

The ones we put in were half the size of the originals that came out (when unsprung), though thats not always a good indicator as far as I know due to the amount the spring compresses "at rest" ?

Cheers

No edit button, oh well.. :)

Johnnyboy - Any chance you could point me in the direction of 20mm lowering front springs? I've been googling since you made that post with no lock, best I can find is 25mm, which might do... Though like I said the higher the better.

Cheers

Cheers Guys, gone for the TI Motorsport ones, exactly what I was looking for.

Now if only I can find out if my dampers have built in bump stops...
